[02:05:51] <noahk11> Hello, When i create a torrent and upload it to the pirates bay it says that there are 0 seeders even though i am seeding it as well as in Bittorrent it says there are 0 seeders, again even though it says im seeding it.
[02:06:12] <noahk11> Any help?
[02:07:20] <noahk11> hello?
[02:08:15] <noahk11> Is anyone not afk?
[02:22:59] <TheSHAD0W> You'll have to ask at that web site.

[04:06:01] <hydoskee> so - I'm pretty far into my torrent implementation, but all my torrents top out at around 96% - what do people do in that scenario?
[04:06:08] <hydoskee> should I go get more peers?
[04:18:01] <DeHackEd> that does happen. got any seeds?
[04:24:37] <hydoskee> I think so
[04:24:54] <hydoskee> it looks like it

[16:45:32] <subichan> hi. excuse me, what exactly is a tracker GET request? I'm reading the BT specification and I'm not getting what's the function of a GET request
[16:45:51] <DeHackEd> tracker runs over HTTP
[16:46:54] <subichan> so GET as opposed to POST ?
[16:47:26] <DeHackEd> I don't think there are POST requests to trackers
[16:47:58] <subichan> the doc goes: "Tracker GET requests have the following keys:"
[16:48:03] <cjd> yea, that's the type of get it's talking about though, same get that you use for getting a webpage
[16:48:44] <subichan> so those are requests that the downloader makes to the tracker?
[16:48:52] <cjd> mhm
[16:49:53] <subichan> it's weird, the tracker expects the downloader to tell it how much it has downloaded and uploaded?
[16:50:19] <cjd> you mean what pieces it has?
[16:50:42] <DeHackEd> it's an interesting statistic for aggregation purposes but most trackers don't pay attention to it. usually log parsers might make pretty graphs of it later
[16:50:54] <subichan> no actually the amount downloaded and uploaded so far it seems..
[16:51:15] * cjd doesn't know much of the protocol beyond dht
[16:51:34] * DeHackEd knows the protocol pretty well as per the original spec from ~2003
[16:51:44] <cjd> heh
[16:51:51] <DeHackEd> none of these silly extensions
[16:52:25] <cjd> ledbat is actually brilliant but /me doesn't know that one either
[16:53:30] <subichan> i'm not getting how tit-for-tat works. what keeps account of how much it's been given/taken for incentive purposes, and is it on a download basis, torrent basis, whole activity on tracker basis, total activity with a certain client from the moment of installation basis, or what..
[16:53:46] <DeHackEd> approximately the last 10 seconds of activity on a TCP socket
[16:53:55] <The_8472> the individual peers keep track of that
[16:54:13] <The_8472> it's on a per-connection basis
[16:54:45] <subichan> so if someone stops it's client because of a pc shutdown the thing begins anew?
[16:54:53] <The_8472> yes
[16:54:58] <DeHackEd> you certainly don't trust a peer's self-described reputation history. kazaa tried that. everyone had hacked clients that reported a rating of 1000
[16:55:16] <The_8472> in fact, it's mostly realtime
[16:55:23] <The_8472> you give bandwidth when they give bandwidth
[16:55:52] <The_8472> i.e. not aggregate-amount-of-data-based but averaged throughput of the last 30 seconds
[16:56:49] <subichan> ah i see so there's not much that can be done about it I guess?
[16:57:52] <subichan> because I find myself downloading at super slow speeds after having downloaded a lot, and almost no upload activity. What can I do, pray them to get pieces from me?
[16:58:18] <The_8472> upload faster
[16:58:51] <subichan> actually it's set to my full bandwidth, but as i said, nobody asks pieces from me
[16:59:11] <The_8472> download speed basically correlates with two things (assuming you're in a large swarm): the seed:peer ratio and your upload speed
[16:59:29] <The_8472> can you give the seed and peer counts?
[17:01:40] <subichan> I'm wondering whether the whole swarm is using bittyrant and leaving me apart. seed count is usually less than 10 and leech count usually more than 20, slightly in both cases, and I can upload at 60 kBs but won't really upload at more than 10 on these torrents..
[17:02:07] <The_8472> well, it's a small swarm. so it depends a lot on the other peers
[17:02:44] <subichan> it doesn't feel healthy at all, it's like neither i'm used nor I can use

[18:21:27] <subichan> hi
[18:22:05] <subichan> if it's through http and it's a GET request with cgi one could simulate a request through the web browser?
[18:22:20] <subichan> i'm talking of tracker requests
[18:22:31] <DeHackEd> of course
[18:23:57] <subichan> huh won't that create trouble?
[18:26:01] <subichan> besides i was wondering what happens if two downloaders randomly create the same id for themselves
[18:35:22] <The_8472> it won't create trouble, no. and trackers usually store things as <torrent,ip,port> tuples
[18:36:45] <TheSHAD0W> Peers are supposed to choose IDs with sufficient entropy that collisions won't happen. It's *possible*, but...
[18:37:33] <The_8472> they're only used for some fringe cases anyway
[18:37:45] <The_8472> like identifying reconnected peers or something
[18:53:08] *** maoranma has quit IRC
[19:07:43] <subichan> this is funny, i'm trying to make up some valid tracker request but I'm getting blank responses
[19:09:58] <DreadWingKnight> what tracker address are you trying to use?
[19:15:23] <subichan> I'm trying with h33t at the moment
[19:16:01] <subichan> but maybe I'm doing some wrong encoding. yet I would expect a failure response of some sort
[19:18:49] <subichan> right now it's timing out though
[19:19:16] <subichan> http://www.h33t.com:3310/announce?bah=hello <--- stuff like this shouldn't generate a failure response?
[19:22:47] <DreadWingKnight> not always
[19:22:52] <DreadWingKnight> although the tracker itself may be broken
[19:54:55] <subichan> thanks for the help guys, see you later!
